lavera is using alcohol in small amounts in Creams and in Face toners. Percentages are based on recommendations from dermatologists. Irritation, dryness or problems are not to be expected.

The alcohol has antibacterial properties and plays an important part in the preservation system of lavera products. lavera is using two kinds of alcohol:

  • 100% pure alcohol, not denatured, in Face Toners, Neutral and Baby Neutral products.
  • With essential oils denatured alcohol, e.g. in deodorants

Both do not contain the commonly used synthetic denaturing agents.

2. Are lavera products safe for gluten intolerances / Celiac Disease?

All products are gluten free and therefore suitable for sufferers of the celiac desease.

3. What are Parabenes?

Parabenes are synthetic preservatives that are usually used in combination of methyl-, propyl- and butylparabenes in order to be most effective. They are known to cause irritations to sensitive skin types. They were also found to cause heart tissue problems over an extended time period. They are known to have oestrogenic effects in the body and are under discussion to influence breast cancer. lavera products are 100% free from all parabenes, including methyl- and propyl parabenes.

4. What are PEGs / Polyethylen Glycols?

Polyethylen Glycols are commonly used synthetic emulsifiers and combine water and oil phase in skin care products. They are very problematic chemicals as they were found to open the pores of the skin and facilitate environmental toxins to enter the body more easily. Examples of these environmental toxins are DDT, DDE, that have the ability to influence the endocrine and reproductive systems.

5. What are hydrogenated oils?

By hydrating an oil, the physical and nutritional aspects of an oil are being changed. In this chemical process, hydrogen is added on to the unsaturated fatty acids. The results are very stabile, fully saturated or partially saturated fatty acids. The new properties make them very useful for color cosmetics.

The use of fully hydrogenated oils in cosmetic and skin care products is in accordance with the strict BDIH standards. They give stability and consistency, which is achieved in conventional products with the use of mineral oils and the very problematic emulsifier PEG.

lavera no longer uses this ingredient any lavera or lavere products.

6. What is Carmine?

Natural Cosmetics have become a trendy word in recent years. But only products that meet the strict standards of the BDIH Guideline in Germany are able to display the "BDIH Certified Natural Cosmetics" Seal on their products. The criteria in the BDIH label are very strict and e.g. include ingredients, packaging and production standards:

Carmine is a natural colorant, derived from insect source. It is commonly used to achieve bright reds and pinks in lipsticks. Synthetic, petroleum based colorants, the synthetic alternative to Carmine, can irritate lips, dry lips out and thus are very problematic. Many synthetic colors are also known to be carcinogenic.
