With the motto “dreams give courage”, DKMS Life invited continued support for women suffering from cancer during their therapy to help them find new hope and the courage to face life, promoting the healing process.

Each year more than 230,000 girls and women are diagnosed with cancer in Germany. Cancer therapy in the form of chemotherapy or radiation treatment offers a chance of recovery, but at the same time it causes changes in appearance including hair loss, loss of eyelashes and eyebrows, and skin irritations. So, for many patients, the battle for survival becomes a daily battle with their own reflection.

DKMS LIFE’s central concept is very simple: “Feeling good” boosts self-esteem and this in turn promotes the healing process and the health of the patient. The goal is to give female cancer patients quality of life, dignity and the hope that comes with it during an extremely difficult time of their lives. The “look good feel better” cosmetics workshops give patients in therapy new courage to face life, which can have far-reaching consequences: greater self-acceptance, better self-esteem, self-confidence and subsequent positive inner attitudes, which can have a strong positive effect on the course of the disease. At the same time, DKMS LIFE provides practical lifestyle support for daily coping with the illness, in particular by allowing the problems and complications of the illness to take a back seat.

Since the start of the “look good feel better” programme in 2004, more than 130,000 female cancer patients have taken part in the successful cosmetic seminars. Demand is high. The goal is to extend the programme right across the country. To achieve this, DKMS LIFE is seeking financial assistance in the form of donations and sponsorship.

This year’s dreamball, hosted by Barbara Schöneberger, examined the works DKMS LIFE has endowed and showed what the charitable organisation does, and why it deserves to be supported – by companies, celebrities and completely normal people.

Lavera Naturkosmetik, a partner of DKMS LIFE, was represented at the dreamball by Claudia Haase herself together with Katrin Möller (PR team manager). Claudia Haase is a nationally certified cosmetician who has, since 2010, been conducting nation-wide make-up seminars for DKMS LIFE as well as visiting cancer patients during their stay in hospital, as it is very important to her to support women and help them find them strength and a new sense of self-esteem. For the first time in April 2017, lavera Naturkosmetik hosted the DKMS “Charity Ladies’ Lunch” conference series in Herrenhausen Palace in Hanover, all proceeds from which were donated to DKMS LIFE’s “look good feel better”.

Prominent guests at the event included Sylvie Meis, Lena Gercke, Stefanie Giesinger, Pamela Reif, Farina Opoku, 2017 dreamlady Ina Otto, 2016 dreamlady Dana Fanselow and 2015 dreamlady Pia Bollig.
