Sunscreen should be reapplied especially after swimming, perspiring or rubbing with a towel.

UV rays are also present in shady places. So the same thing applies here: Use a sunscreen! Avoid the midday sun and never expose babies and children to direct sunlight.

Besides a high SPF sunscreen product, babies and children should also wear suitable protective clothing to guard against dangerous sunlight, especially on the head and upper body.

What is the correct way to use lavera sun protection products? Please note the following important instructions for use:

  •  Apply generously before and repeatedly during sun exposure.
  • Reapply protection regularly, especially if sweating and after spending time in water.
  •  Keep babies and toddlers out of direct sunlight, and use protective clothing and sunscreen with a high SPF.
  • Not even sunscreens with a high sun protection factor provide complete protection against UV radiation.
  •  Avoid the intense midday sun. Excessive sun exposure poses serious health risks.
  • Avoid contact with eyes.
  • Avoid direct contact with textiles (may stain clothing).

The mineral sun protection filter is developed by lavera itself. The formulations are routinely improved and adapted according to the latest research. The lavera sunscreen products use titanium dioxide and zinc oxide for protection. The principle is simple and has been taken from nature. Just like an elephant throws sand - i.e. minerals - over its skin to protect it from UV rays, the sun protection factors lie on the skin and reflect the sun's rays.

Synthetic sun protection & sun filter: They contain synthetic factors like oxybenzone, octinoxate, phenylbezimidazoles. These bond with the oils in the skin and dissipate the heat energy through the skin.

More information about mineral sun protection

Unlike synthetic sunscreens, our mineral sunscreens sit on top of the skin, reflecting UV rays like a mirror. To maintain good sun protection, reapply your lavera sunscreen generously and frequently, especially after swimming, towel drying or sweating. Please note that repeated application does not prolong the protective effect of the product, but only maintains it.

Yes, lavera sun cream for children is also suitable for adult skin. The nourishing formula is unscented, which minimises the risk of sun-induced skin irritation and makes it ideal for people with acne aestivalis or atopic dermatitis. The sensitive skin of children generally requires particularly safe sun protection with a high SPF and more nourishing formulas than adult skin. lavera KIDS’ Sensitive Sun Lotion SPF 50 is formulated with organic sunflower oil and organic avocado oil for intensive nourishment. The visible sun cream formula allows seamless application and glides easily onto the skin.

The mineral sunscreens in lavera sun protection products sit on top of the skin and work like a mirror reflecting the rays of the sun. The human eye is unable to perceive the minerals (white pigments) on the skin as a separate component. The skin therefore appears a little more matte and white (‘white cast’). Because mineral sunscreens sit on the skin, their spreadability is somewhat different from that of their conventional counterparts.

We are constantly working on improving our products: Following the latests updates to the range, lavera sun protection products show improved spreadability and reduced white cast.

The ‘reef-friendly’ label on lavera sun protection products means that our sun protection formulas with mineral sunscreens comply with Hawaiian reef law. Did you know that Hawaii passed a law that bans sunscreens containing the UV filters oxybenzone and octinoxate which came into effect in January 2021? Not only are these synthetic UV filters suspected of triggering allergic reactions in humans, they are also thought to damage coral reefs. The state of Hawaii decided in 2018 that from 1 January 2021, sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate would no longer have a place on the picturesque beaches of the archipelago. According to the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), 14,000 tons of sunscreen are thought to end up in the world's oceans every year. The effects are particularly noticeable in the vicinity of popular beaches. In order to avoid ocean pollution by these two synthetic UV filters, we recommend using mineral sunscreen products instead.
