Hanover, 20.03.2026 - What started as an initiative of the Lavera Thomas Haase Foundation and "Das macht Schule" has become a successful self-runner: The E-Waste Race in the Hanover region has once again set impressive standards with 15,543 collected parts. In total over 110,000 electronic parts, more than 56 tons of electronic waste, 76 schools, and over 1,850 committed students – these are the superlatives of an initiative that proves: When everyone participates, great things can be achieved together. And that’s exactly what we are doing in Hanover and the region!
The environmental project is so much more than just a collection campaign
We have succeeded in making schools continuously supplement their lessons with the environmental project, which excites not only the students but also the teachers. The E-Waste Race is a dynamic educational project that achieves in just 4 weeks what no regular lesson can convey. The kids learn teamwork, organize themselves in teams, experience their own impact through the success they achieve. They become media experts, discover all their potential – new personal strengths – and continuously develop new ideas to collect as much e-waste as possible.
The winner of the Spring Race 2026 in Hanover was the Free Waldorf School Hanover-Bothfeld, which battled until the very end with the IGS Büssingweg for the victory.
With 7,550 parts and 3,505 points achieved for parts and media work, they deservedly won in the end. Yesterday, on behalf of the foundation, together with our committed patron Mayor Belit Onay, I presented the winner's check and thus a trip to phaeno in Wolfsburg.
