Here we want to clarify why lavera offers toothpastes with fluoride on the one hand, while on the other hand we have deliberately omitted it in some toothpastes.
As our many years of experience in the natural cosmetics market show, there are numerous customers who want fluoride-containing products, while just as many consciously want to avoid fluoride. For example, parents often look specifically for alternatives to fluoride-containing toothpastes, especially when children have allergies or are particularly sensitive.
In the area of dental care, lavera also offers various products to meet the care needs of as many individual preferences as possible. Therefore, lavera offers dental care products with and without fluoride.

Which fluoride does lavera use?
lavera uses high-quality sodium fluoride. Sodium fluoride has been shown in numerous tests to make teeth more acid-resistant and thus less prone to cavities. Sodium fluoride is permitted in oral care products at a maximum concentration of 0.15% (1500 ppm).
What is the fluoride recommendation for children?
According to the joint recommendation of pediatricians and dentists along with other professional societies, children from 2 to 6 years old should brush their teeth two to three times daily with a pea-sized amount of toothpaste containing 1,000 ppm fluoride.
Are fluorides toxic?
It is undisputed that fluoride in extreme overdoses is harmful to the human body – just like other chemical substances! The use of fluorides in cosmetic products is regulated by law. According to the Cosmetics Regulation, a maximum of 0.15% (1500 ppm) of pure fluoride may be included in oral care products. Precisely because fluorides are present in many substances that enter our bodies daily – both intentionally and unintentionally – such as in water, beverages, food, etc., many consumers fear that using a fluoride-containing toothpaste in addition might push them over the “overdose” threshold.
Poisoning from toothpaste containing fluorides is very unlikely. For example, a 1-year-old child of average weight would have to swallow about 53 ml of toothpaste. For an adult, the amount is significantly higher, making poisoning from consuming toothpaste virtually impossible.
Where do fluorides come from?
The sodium fluoride used in lavera Natural Beauty is an odorless, fine, white powder with good mucous membrane compatibility. In nature, fluoride only occurs in combination with other substances and must be purified accordingly. Fluoride is classified as a trace element. Our body needs these for vital functions. Fluorides are absorbed through food (e.g., drinking water) and are responsible for the strength of bones and teeth. In nature, it is present in the form of many minerals.
Why does lavera not use fluoride in the KIDS toothpaste?
Many parents worry that small children may ingest too much fluoride by swallowing toothpaste. Babies and toddlers often do not yet understand that toothpaste should not be swallowed. They also do not have fully developed oral muscles and therefore tend to swallow toothpaste more often than older children or adults.
