Recycling cosmetic packaging

Kosmetikverpackungen recyceln

You already make sure to use as environmentally friendly cosmetics as possible, but you still need a few tips on how to properly dispose of the packaging once you have used up the product? Here you will learn which product packaging belongs in the yellow bag and which you should dispose of differently.

Yellow bag & yellow bin

Did you know that this disposal method is intended exclusively for packaging? Only items that previously contained something are allowed here.

Waste separation – different everywhere

Which containers you can use for which type of waste varies by region – just like the containers available to you. This primarily depends on exactly where you live. It’s best to check with your local waste disposal service. Here you can also find pickup times and special regulations that apply to your area.

Plastic, cardboard, glass

Basically, there are three packaging groups that you should separate – and accordingly three disposal routes: for packaging made of plastics, for paper waste, and for glass waste.

This goes in the yellow bag

Plastic and aluminum packaging belongs in the yellow bag or yellow bin. For example, toothpaste tubes or shampoo bottles, but also tin cans, aluminum deodorant containers, and much more. You can also dispose of packaging that is not 100% plastic. However, it is important that they are made of plastic and carry a recycling symbol.

Ideally, you should only dispose of truly empty packaging. You don’t have to rinse them completely, as they are cleaned during the recycling process. However, leftover amounts of unused products should be disposed of in the residual waste.

This goes in the paper bin

This is where you dispose of paper waste. For example, the cardboard packaging of your lavera Natural Beauty.

But be careful: Not everything that looks like paper belongs in the paper bin. Receipts are mostly made of thermal paper and therefore belong in the residual waste.

This goes in the glass container

Glass jars belong in the glass recycling bin. Pay attention to the correct color when recycling glass: white glass goes into the white container, green glass into the green one. Remove metal or plastic lids beforehand and dispose of them separately.

Modern sorting facilities can already separate lids and closures independently. If in doubt, check with your local waste disposal service to be sure.

Some packaging is a bit more challenging than others. Sometimes, the product contains different materials that you need to dispose of separately. For example, pump dispensers often have metal springs that must be disposed of separately. Similarly, you should dispose of the cardboard outer packaging of products separately in the paper bin. Aluminum lids on cream jars also do not belong in the same bin as the jar itself.

Have fun recycling!
