CICA – Traditional Medicinal Plant Meets Modern Skincare

Centella Asiatica, also known as Tiger Grass, has been valued for thousands of years in traditional Asian medicine. The extract from the leaves contains valuable triterpenes such as Asiaticoside, Madecassoside, and Asiatic acid. These bioactive components make CICA a powerful ingredient in skincare – scientifically proven and versatile.

The Centella Asiatica plant – small but powerful

Centella Asiatica is a creeping, perennial plant from the Apiaceae family. It prefers to grow in moist, tropical, and subtropical regions and produces small, kidney-shaped to round leaves. In traditional medicine, Centella Asiatica is used for wound healing and skin soothing.

How CICA affects the skin

Centella Asiatica can significantly support skin regeneration: the extract stimulates special skin cells called fibroblasts to divide and promotes the formation of collagen – the protein that makes the skin firm and elastic. In addition, CICA has an anti-inflammatory effect. It inhibits the release of inflammation-promoting messengers and can thus reduce redness and skin irritations.

Furthermore, the extract can reduce transepidermal water loss – the evaporation process of water from the deeper skin layers through the epidermis – and thus strengthen the natural skin barrier.
