Natural PHAs (polyhydroxy acids) like gluconolactone offer a gentle and effective way to peel and care for the skin. Learn how this ingredient can improve skin texture and why it is ideal for sensitive skin.
You have probably heard the term natural PHA in relation to cosmetics. But what are PHAs? Natural PHAs (polyhydroxy acids) belong to the group of hydroxy acids. These acids provide a chemical peeling of the skin. They dissolve dead skin cells without irritating the skin. Gluconolactone is a natural PHA. PHAs also moisturize your skin and have antioxidant, keratolytic, comedolytic, and cell renewal-stimulating properties. This gives your skin a radiant and healthy-looking appearance.
Natural PHAs, such as the gluconolactone we use, are obtained through the fermentation of glucose. This ingredient then appears as a white crystalline powder. Since the PHA gluconolactone penetrates the skin less deeply and acts more superficially compared to alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), it is particularly well tolerated, especially on sensitive skin.
PHA works on the skin's surface with antioxidant, exfoliating effects and dissolves blackheads. By removing dead skin flakes, gluconolactone also accelerates cell renewal and supports the regeneration of skin cells. This gives you a smoother complexion and glow. In addition, PHAs strengthen the skin barrier and act as moisturizers, helping your skin achieve a radiant appearance.
