Biting into a juicy melon is pure holiday mood for our taste buds AND very healthy too. But did you know that the small melon seeds pack a punch as well? They are used to produce a valuable beauty oil: the precious organic Kalahari melon oil. The light yellow, lightweight melon seed oil is characterized by its special mix of essential fatty acids and its moisturizing properties.
Our organic Kalahari melon oil comes from the seeds of the fruit of the same name and is cold-pressed. The vegan beauty oil is rich in omega-6 fatty acids and vitamin E. This natural skin soother can gently calm irritated and dry skin. We are happy to use these strengths in our certified Natural Beauty products.
The Kalahari melon is the botanical ancestor of the watermelon we know and looks very similar to it at first glance. However, when cut open, the Kalahari melon reveals a refreshingly green flesh. Its bitter taste also differs significantly from the fruity sweetness of our summer favorite. But this melon variety has a lot to offer!
The flesh can consist of up to 90% water, making it an important source of hydration for human and animal inhabitants of the Kalahari Desert – especially during dry periods. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Kalahari melon was already cultivated in the Nile Valley around 2500 BC. It is very well adapted to the dryness of the desert and belongs to the gourd family.
Above all, the high content of essential fatty acids makes the oil so popular in the cosmetics world, as it can strengthen the skin barrier. This means that less moisture can "escape" and the skin does not dry out as quickly. The light organic Kalahari melon oil spreads well, absorbs quickly, and leaves no greasy residue.
Did you know? The light melon oil is non-comedogenic and therefore does not clog pores. Organic Kalahari melon oil is also ideal for sensitive skin. In addition, it contains a high amount of vitamin E, which can protect your skin cells from free radicals.
