Panthenol: Provitamin B5 with great effect

Panthenol, also known as Provitamin B5, is a precursor of pantothenic acid. On the skin or in the hair, the body converts it into active vitamin B5 – and that is exactly where it unfolds its effect. Due to its small molecular size, it can penetrate deep into the skin layers and binds moisture there. In cosmetics, the D-form (Dexpanthenol) is mainly used, which is considered particularly skin-friendly and effective.

Panthenol vs. pantothenic acid – what is the difference?
Pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) is the active form that the body uses directly. Panthenol (provitamin B5) is the stable precursor mostly used in cosmetic products.

A connection with a long history in dermatology

For decades, Dexpanthenol has been used in dermatology – for wound healing, skin irritations, and dry skin. It is not an extract from a single plant but a compound that can be biotechnologically produced. Its stability and skin compatibility make it a reliable active ingredient in Natural Beauty products. What Panthenol does to skin and scalp

Scientific studies prove: Dexpanthenol improves the skin barrier, increases moisture in the uppermost skin layer, and can reduce redness. Furthermore, Panthenol promotes proliferation, meaning the multiplication of fibroblasts – the skin cells responsible for regeneration.

In hair care, it has Panthenol a particularly valuable effect: It binds moisture intensively, which can reduce dry flakes and soothe irritated, itchy scalp. The result: a calm scalp with reduced flaking and smooth, shiny hair.
