How to apply multicolored eyeshadow?

This question is probably one of the most frequently asked about eye makeup: eyeshadow – where to apply light and where to apply dark? Basically, you can apply lighter colors over the entire eyelid up to the crease. They make your eyes look bigger and more awake. A soft, light highlight in the inner corner of the eye and on the highest point of the eyebrow also creates an instantly fresher, radiant look.

Darker shades, on the other hand, are perfect for adding depth and definition to the eye. Apply them directly into the crease and blend carefully.

Is drawing eyeliner with eyeshadow a good idea?

This trick is perfect for subtle everyday looks or if you prefer a softer eye makeup. When applied as an eyeliner, eyeshadow creates a softer line than a liquid eyeliner. Another advantage: while a liquid eyeliner requires a steady hand and a lot of precision, eyeshadow can be quickly corrected – guaranteeing the perfect eyeliner! The best tool for application is a precise, angled, or pointed brush. You can apply the eyeshadow either dry or wet.

Dry application: Use a dry brush to pick up the eyeshadow and apply it close along the lash line. Then gently blend the eyeliner outwards.

Wet application: Use a dampened brush to pick up the eyeshadow and apply it in one stroke along the lash line.

Our tip: A Setting Spray is ideal for dampening the brush. Thanks to its fine mist spray, it is easy to control and allows for a perfect, soft eyeliner. Alternatively, a practical eyeshadow pencil can also be used.

Which eyeshadow brush for what?

Do you want to be able to do your eye makeup like a pro? Then reach for the right brush for each styling step!

1. First, take a rounded brush with dense bristles and a flat shape. The thick bristles hold the color pigments well, and when applying, the eyeshadow is rich and intense. Apply the eyeshadow to the movable eyelid and the inner corner of the eye, as well as to the outer corner of the eye.

2. Make sure to carefully clean the brush before picking up another color, for example by pressing it on a dry cosmetic tissue. This way, you avoid the colors mixing unpleasantly during application.

3. For the crease and the darker shades, an angled eyeshadow brush is better. With it, you can work the darker tones into the crease. For blending, it’s best to use a special blending brush with soft and wider bristles. With it, you can beautifully shade and highlight colors. By the way, this blending brush is also suitable for contouring specific areas of the face or applying powder.

Beauty hacks for cream eyeshadow

A delicate cream eyeshadow is best applied with clean fingers, a brush, or small sponges. Blend it well to avoid any unsightly edges. You can build up the color intensity as you like and feel free to apply the cream eyeshadow multiple times. Your creativity knows no bounds!

Our tip: A practical Multi Balm Stick is also the perfect cream eyeshadow. The gently melting texture is ideal for use on the eye (as an eyeshadow stick).

Which brush for cream eyeshadow?

The solution: a flat, firmly bound synthetic brush

If you prefer to apply your cream eyeshadow with a brush instead of your fingers, you should use a flat, firmly bound synthetic brush. Such a brush helps you apply the cream eyeshadow evenly and with high coverage. Synthetic brushes are ideal for cream products because they are less porous than brushes with natural bristles and therefore absorb less product. This allows for a more even application.

For blending your cream eyeshadow, a synthetic blending brush with soft, dense bristles is suitable. They are gentle on sensitive skin and allow for seamless blending of the edges.

Which base for eyeshadow?

"Why doesn't my eyeshadow stay?" or "Why does my eyeshadow always smudge?" – Have you asked yourself these questions often? We understand! After all, nothing is more annoying than eyeshadow that shifts or fades away. We'll tell you how to make your eyeshadow last longer.

To create a more even surface and thus an optimal base, use a special Eyeshadow Base or a Primer.

But also concealer, a foundation, or even a liquid highlighter create a good base for eye makeup. They create a more even and "sticky" base for eye makeup. This helps your eyeshadow last longer on the eyelid without slipping into the crease, and the color even stands out better.

Pro tip

You can also set the concealer with a loose powder to ensure even longer wear. This also makes application more even. With these tricks, the question of why your eyeshadow always smudges will definitely be a thing of the past.

Eyeshadow crumbles – what to do?

Your favorite eyeshadow has fallen and now the texture is lost in many small crumbs in the container? In this case, you can easily provide first aid with a little DIY to save your eyeshadow after all.

You will need:

  • High-proof alcohol (available at the pharmacy)
  • Small bowl or container
  • Spatula
  • Coin
  • Clean tissue
  • Optional: Pipette for easier dosing

1. Put the crumbled eyeshadow into the small container and use the spatula to process it into a fine powder. The finer the powder, the smoother the eyeshadow will be afterwards. Then use the pipette or a small spoon to take up the alcohol and add a few drops to the powder, mixing well. Repeat this step until the mixture reaches a creamy consistency (it should neither crumble nor be too liquid).

2. Now fill the creamy mixture back into the original aluminum pan using the spatula. Then place the tissue over the pan so that the entire surface is covered, and put the coin on the tissue. Now simply press the coin onto the powder and hold for a few seconds. Almost done!

3. Now remove the coin and the tissue. Conveniently, the excess alcohol has been absorbed by the tissue. What should remain is only a smooth, pressed surface. Let the eyeshadow dry completely overnight. Your eyeshadow is ready – as good as new!

Is that too complicated for you? Then there’s a quicker way: crumble the broken eyeshadow in the container into a powder and apply the fine pigments to your eyelid with a clean finger or brush. Before doing this, you should apply a primer, concealer, or foundation so the individual pigments adhere better.

Our tip: This trick also works with broken powder or blush.

How long does eyeshadow last?

"When is eyeshadow bad?" – We get this question again and again. You can find information about the shelf life of our eyeshadows on the product packaging.

Rückseite Tigel mit Period after opening
  • Many products carry the so-called best before date (MHD - Mindesthaltbarkeitsdatum), e.g. 05/2026. This date indicates until when the product can be safely used.

  • Some products also have a so-called Period After Opening (PAO) symbol. This is the symbol of an open jar with a number and an "M" (e.g. 6M, 12M). It indicates how many months after opening the product can be safely used.

How can I tell if my eyeshadow has gone bad?

Color changes

The color of your eyeshadow has changed or is less intense.

Changes in texture and consistency

The eyeshadow has dried out, is crumbling, or feels harder than usual.

Change in odor

An unusual or strong smell can be a sign that the eyeshadow has gone bad. Especially if a product smells rancid or sour, it should be disposed of.

Change in consistency

Cream eyeshadows or eyeshadow sticks should be smooth and easy to apply. If they dry out, form a hard film on the surface, or become clumpy, they may no longer be usable.
