When it storms, snows, or rains outside, your skin especially feels the seasonal change intensely. Dry heating air and cold temperatures challenge it. We show you how to specifically adjust your care routine for winter to optimally nourish your skin and hair even as temperatures drop, with five effective care tips. Additionally, you will receive a practical care guide that can be easily integrated into your daily routine.
Did you know...
In winter, your skin is especially prone to dryness. This is due to the dry heating air and the constant temperature changes between warm and cold.
Our 5 tips for adjusting your skincare routine in winter
When temperatures drop, your skin's needs change too. Now is the right time for a conscious change in your skincare routine: moving away from the light summer care towards richer winter care. We’ll show you what you absolutely need to keep in mind.
For your winter skincare products, rely on high-quality organic plant oils. Argan oil, shea butter, and evening primrose oil are especially recommended. A nourishing oil serum that additionally supplies your skin with valuable vitamins perfectly complements your care routine.
Alternatively, you can switch using the so-called layering method. This involves applying several skincare products in layers to achieve optimal care results. Important: Follow a specific order and wait a few minutes between each step to allow the products to absorb well.
It’s best to use products from the same skincare line. Since they are coordinated and contain similar active ingredients, you reduce the risk of incompatibilities.
Important tip for your home:
The indoor climate can effectively support your skincare routine. Pay attention to a comfortable humidity level between 40 and 60 percent. Additionally, houseplants can counteract dry heating air and contribute to a healthy indoor climate. Alternatively, you can also hang humidifiers on your heater.
In general, hands and feet tend to become dry especially in winter. Small cracks or thickened calluses quickly form on the feet. A nourishing foot cream helps counteract this. For your hands, special nail or hand creams that also include nail care are recommended. Apply cream to your hands at least once in the morning and once in the evening, ideally also in between. This helps prevent dry and cracked areas.
Layering: Your winter care routine in four steps
Finally, we would like to give you a little inspiration for your winter facial care. Here is an effective care routine that provides your skin with enough moisture even in cold and dry conditions for a natural glow and follows the principle of layering.
Step 1: Cleansing
Thorough cleansing is the foundation of every good skincare routine. For skin that tends to be drier in winter, it’s best to use a rich cleansing cream or cleansing milk that provides your skin with valuable moisture.
Step 2: Toner
After cleansing, you can pamper your skin with a facial toner. It prepares your skin for the next care steps and, depending on the product, provides valuable active ingredients that gently clarify and ensure a clear complexion. Apply the product to a cotton pad and gently sweep over your face, eyes, and lips. You do not need to rinse it off afterwards.
Step 3: Serum
For intense moisture, you now apply a serum or oil elixir. Active ingredients like natural hyaluronic acid, organic algae, or vitamin E help in an effective care formula to replenish your skin's moisture reserves and give it a pleasant feeling of freshness. An oil elixir can be a valuable addition to your skincare routine at this step. Ultimately, it depends on what makes you feel most comfortable and, above all, what is good for your skin.
Step 4: Day & Night Cream
Depending on the time of day, you now use a nourishing night or day cream. In winter, especially rich and re-fatting creams are advisable (see tip 1). A regenerating night cream helps your skin recover from the stresses of the day and ensures a revitalized complexion. Depending on the active ingredient composition, it supports natural cell regeneration and gives you a fresh skin feeling in the morning.
Individual care for every skin type
Ultimately, the optimal care depends on your individual skin type. In general, you should be especially attentive in winter and respond to your skin's needs. You already know some tricks to optimize your daily routine.
