What do the abbreviations PCR and PIR mean?
PCR (Post Consumer Recycled Material)
PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled): PCR materials come from packaging that has fulfilled its purpose and has been disposed of by consumers. When you throw your empty shampoo bottle into the yellow bin, it ends up together with other plastics from the yellow bag at a recycling company. There, the materials are thoroughly cleaned, shredded, and melted to make new packaging. This way, less waste is produced and resources are saved.
PIR (Post-Industrial Recycled Material)
PIR stands for Post-Industrial Recycled. PIR materials are made from production waste generated during the packaging manufacturing process. An example of this is plastic scraps left over from cutting packaging. These wastes are collected, recycled, and integrated into new packaging, which increases material efficiency and reduces waste.
