Discover how to find the right foundation for your skin type, how to apply your makeup correctly so it lasts longer, and why proper skincare is the foundation for every makeup look.
If you have dry skin, foundation may cause additional drying, flaking or dry lines. To achieve a radiant complexion, it is important to properly prepare the skin first. After cleansing, apply a serum or day cream that gives your skin an extra moisture boost. Then you can start with the lavera Glow Serum Primer as a base for your makeup. The primer blends gently with the skin, provides a radiant, well-cared-for appearance, and optimally prepares your skin for lightweight makeup. It forms the perfect base for long-lasting looks.
Oily and combination skin tend to be prone to a shiny T-zone. A lightweight foundation like the lavera Natural Cosmetics Hyaluron Liquid Foundation is particularly suitable here. The Hyaluron Liquid Foundation isn't too 'waxy' (which can intensify skin shine) and gives you lightweight makeup that's easy to apply. It's perfect for you if you want a flawless complexion with a radiant finish and want to give your skin additional moisture.
Blemished skin is prone to pimples, which can be covered with foundation or more selectively with a cover stick. Formulated with organic witch hazel, Cover & Care Stick from lavera is particularly suitable, as it not only covers blemishes but also prevents inflammation.
A medium to high coverage foundation such as Compact Foundation is particularly suitable for covering redness and pimples. A Compact Foundation with an extra sponge is also especially handy when you are out and about, allowing easy touch-ups wherever you are.
While it does depend on the type of foundation you're using – powder foundation doesn't apply well with fingers but works great with a brush – your personal preference also plays an important role here.
The medium coverage of our Hyaluron Liquid Foundation for example can be varied from light to full coverage, depending on the application technique. Applying with your fingers provides the highest coverage. This technique is also quick and uncomplicated. Those who prefer a precise and streak-free finish with medium coverage should use a makeup brush for application. For a particularly natural, even finish, a dampened makeup sponge is the tool of choice. Here the coverage is lightest, but the skin appearance is most natural.
Tip: For best results, you should first work the foundation into the brush or sponge on the back of your hand and then apply evenly to the face. The warmth of the skin ensures that the foundation blends even better. Especially with the Hyaluron Liquid Foundation, thanks to its high yield, just a small amount is sufficient.
Apply some foundation with your fingertips, a foundation brush, or a sponge to cleansed skin. Start in the center of the face and blend the texture gently outward toward the hairline and neck. For a softly perfected finish, a small amount is often sufficient. For more coverage, you can apply the foundation in multiple layers as needed.
Important: Make sure you clean your makeup sponges and brushes regularly, as makeup residue, flakes of skin and sebum provide an ideal medium for bacterial proliferation. You should therefore clean your brushes roughly every two weeks to avoid blemishes and redness. Simply lather your makeup brush or sponge with a gentle shampoo in the palm of your hand, rinse and repeat until all makeup residue is gone. Then just gently blot the brush or sponge with a towel and let it dry.
Every heard of ‘baking your makeup? This hack used by makeup artists can make your foundation and concealer last longer. The Fine Loose Mineral Powder is particularly well-suited for this purpose: apply generously to the desired area, e.g. over concealer, leave on for a few minutes and then simply brush away the excess powder. Lavera Mineral Compact Powder can also be used to mattify and set, but is better suited for on the go, as the powder is pressed.
Which shade is right for your is also determined by your skin undertone. Whether you have a cool, warm or neutral undertone is easy to work out: Blue or purple wrist veins typically indicate that you have a cool undertone. Greenish veins indicate a warm undertone. In the case of neutral skin types, the veins appear blueish-green.
Still unsure? Then there is another test you can do! Hold a sheet of white paper next to your face, or wrap a white t-shirt around it. The neutral white makes it easier to identify the undertone of your skin. If your skin seems more yellowish, you have a warm undertone, if it looks more bluish, your undertone is cool.
Important tip for color selection: If possible, test the foundation not only on the back of your hand but also on the skin on your neck, because the skin tone on the back of your hand is often different than on your face. Let the foundation dry briefly and then check the color in daylight or neutral light.
Does the foundation look like a mask? Then it's possible that you applied too much or didn't blend the product sufficiently. Therefore, always start with a small amount, blend it well, and build up the coverage as needed instead of using a large amount right away – that quickly leads to the mask effect.
Does the foundation emphasize dry patches? This usually happens when the skin hasn't been sufficiently moisturized beforehand. Here, the lavera Glow Serum Primer can provide additional help alongside your day care: The lightweight, serum-like texture with natural power ingredients like organic aloe vera and plant-based glycerin provides the skin with moisture and nourishes it long-lastingly.
