What does the Skinification trend mean?

Read more Read less

Dr. Neuhoff: "Skinification" describes a revolutionary trend in body care: we transfer the highly effective care concepts and innovative active ingredients from facial care to the care of our entire body For a long time, the skin on the body was rather neglected – a simple body lotion had to suffice. But today we know: the skin on the body deserves the same attention and targeted care as our face. After all, it is our largest organ.

Specifically, „Skinification" means: We use high-quality active ingredients in body care such as hyaluronic acid for intensive moisture, vitamin C for an even complexion, bakuchiol for firmer skin, or peptides to support skin elasticity – ingredients that were previously found mainly in facial care products. At lavera Naturkosmetik, we live this holistic approach: we develop body care products with the same scientific expertise and the same highly effective, natural ingredients as our facial care – for all-around healthy, well-cared-for skin all over the body.

Why is this approach so important?

This approach is significant for several reasons: firstly, the skin on the body ages just like the skin on the face – it is exposed to the same environmental influences, UV radiation, and the natural aging process. Yet we have neglected it for a long time. Secondly, our understanding of holistic skin care has evolved. Today we know that healthy, well-cared-for skin all over the body is not just a question of aesthetics, but also of well-being. An intact skin barrier protects us, regulates moisture balance, and significantly contributes to how our skin feels.

Furthermore, the needs of the skin on the body are diverse: dry areas on elbows and shins, sensitive areas, or skin changes due to hormonal influences – all of this deserves targeted, effective care, not just a one-size-fits-all solution.

Many active ingredients originally developed for facial care, such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, or Q10, are extremely valuable for the entire body. They provide intensive moisture, protect against free radicals, and support skin regeneration. In natural cosmetics, we rely on plant-based alternatives and natural extracts that are gentle yet highly effective.

So for example, in our new Glow by Nature Body Lotion, which gives dull skin new vitality, intensive moisture, and a natural 24h glow thanks to an antioxidant vitamin complex of C, E, and F and invigorating organic orange, while simultaneously reducing the first signs of skin aging.

What is particularly important when transferring these ingredients to body care?

Read more Read less

The transfer of facial care active ingredients to body care is not a simple 1:1 implementation – this requires real formulation artistry. First, we must consider the different skin needs: the skin on the body is thicker in many places than on the face, has fewer sebaceous glands, and therefore tends to dry out more quickly. At the same time, the area to be cared for is significantly larger. Therefore, it is crucial that the active ingredients are used in the right concentration and formulation effective enough to work, but also pleasant to use. Nobody wants a sticky or slow-absorbing texture all over their body.

Sensory experience is also particularly important: body care products must be easy to spread, absorb quickly, and leave a pleasant skin feeling – without compromising effectiveness. All of these were essential parameters for the development of our new lavera Body Range.

What special contribution can natural cosmetics make in the area of Skinification?

Read more Read less

Natural cosmetics are virtually predestined for the Skinification trend – because nature offers us an incredible variety of highly effective ingredients, that are perfectly tailored to the needs of our skin. The decisive advantage: natural active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid from plant fermentation, bakuchiol from the babchi plant, or antioxidants from fruits and plant extracts are not only effective but also particularly skin-compatible. They work in harmony with the skin, not against it.

At lavera, we go one step further: we have been researching the secrets of nature for almost 40 years and developing einzigartige unique active ingredient compositions from them. Our products are scientifically based, clinically tested, and combine the intelligence of nature with state-of-the-art formulation expertise.

Another important aspect: natural cosmetics stand for transparency and responsibility. We avoid questionable ingredients, rely on sustainable raw materials, and think holistically – for products that are good not only for the skin but also for the environment. This way, "Skinification" in natural cosmetics becomes a holistic approach: effective, well-tolerated, and responsible – for skin that feels good all around.

Is there anything consumers should pay attention to when applying, especially if they have dry or sensitive skin?

Read more Read less

Skinification is a wonderful trend that takes body care to a new level – but as with any effective care: the formulation must match individual skin needs.

For dry skin I recommend paying attention to a combination of moisturizing and re-lipidizing ingredients. Hyaluronic acid, as we use in our Hydro Refresh Body Lotion, for example, binds moisture in the skin but should always be combined with nourishing oils or lipids to strengthen the skin barrier. For sensitive skin, the rule is also: less is often more. Look for mild, soothing formulations with ingredients like aloe vera.

Dermatologically tested

At lavera Naturkosmetik, we develop all products dermatologically tested and checked for skin compatibility. Our formulations are designed to be suitable for sensitive skin as well – without compromising on effectiveness.

And what about mature skin? Are there special aspects to consider with Skinification products?

Absolutely. With increasing age, the skin all over the body changes: it becomes thinner, loses elasticity and firmness, and natural moisture supply decreases. Here, active ingredients are needed that specifically address these aging processes – just as we know from facial care. For mature skin, I recommend formulations with firming and regenerating ingredients.

Conclusion – what is Skinification?

We hope we could shed some light on the frequent question "Why should I care for my body like my facial skin?". Dr. Neuhoff has explained what the Skinification trend is all about.
We transfer the highly effective care concepts and innovative active ingredients from facial care to the care of our entire body. This means: you will find high-quality active ingredients in lavera body care that you already know from lavera facial care. The following ingredients play a particularly important role: hyaluronic acid, vitamin C or Q10, vitamin complex of C, E, and F, and organic orange. All these ingredients are also used in lavera body care.
And regarding the question of whether Skinification is just a marketing trend or really meaningful, we are certain: the skin on the body deserves the same attention and targeted care as our face. Therefore, this approach will continue to play a major role for us in the future. Because we know: healthy, well-cared-for skin all over the body is not just a question of aesthetics, but also of well-being.
